National Project Officer – Labour Mobility

About the role
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Uzbekistan is seeking a National Project Officer to lead the Labour Mobility Unit. Reporting to the Chief of Mission, the officer will manage and deliver project activities within the Labour Mobility and Social Inclusion thematic area, working closely with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and migrant communities.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, implementation and monitoring of labour‑mobility projects in Uzbekistan.
- Coordinate with the Regional Thematic Specialists, headquarters units and administrative centres to ensure alignment with IOM strategies.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the Government of Uzbekistan, migrant‑representative organisations and other UN partners.
- Lead a team of specialists, providing guidance and ensuring high‑quality project outputs.
- Prepare reports, budgets and donor documentation in line with UN and bilateral donor programming requirements.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum two years of professional experience in migration, labour mobility, or related humanitarian fields.
- Proven experience liaising with governmental bodies, UN agencies and NGOs.
- Fluency in English and Uzbek (both oral and written); working knowledge of Russian is desirable.
- Demonstrated commitment to IOM values of inclusion, integrity, professionalism, courage and empathy.
Required skills
- In‑depth knowledge of labour mobility, skills development, and social‑financial inclusion.
- Strong understanding of migration dynamics in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
- Familiarity with UN and bilateral donor programming.
- Experience in project development and management within the development sector.
