Environmental & Social Expert

About the role

The Environmental & Social Expert will oversee environmental, occupational health and safety, and social safeguard requirements for projects in Uzbekistan, ensuring compliance with national regulations and the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor project activities against environmental and social requirements, including safeguard instruments.
• Support implementation and monitoring of World Bank ESF instruments such as ESMP, LMP, and GRM.
• Review OHS arrangements, site practices, incidents and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with Uzbekistan environmental procedures, including ZVOS/ZEP.
• Oversee hazardous and laboratory waste segregation, handling, storage, transport and disposal.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement, grievance handling and documentation.
• Prepare monitoring records, corrective‑action tracking and periodic E&S reports.

Required profile

• University degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sociology or related field.
• Minimum 8 years experience in environmental management, OHS or social safeguards.
• Proven practical experience with World Bank ESF instruments (ESMP, LMP, GRM).
• Knowledge of ZVOS/ZEP processes and hazardous laboratory waste management.
• Fluent in Uzbek and Russian, with strong English proficiency.
