International Road Engineer – On-site in Uzbekistan

About the role

ESS (Environmental and Social Sustainability) is looking for an experienced International Road Engineer to lead on‑site road and bridge projects in Uzbekistan. The role involves providing technical leadership, ensuring compliance with international standards and lender requirements, and delivering large‑scale transport infrastructure in emerging markets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary teams on road and bridge infrastructure assignments.
• Provide technical oversight throughout project implementation to meet quality, schedule and budget targets.
• Review engineering designs, contractor submissions, technical reports and project documentation.
• Administer FIDIC contracts, including claims management, variation orders, payment certificates and overall contract administration.
• Identify technical and contractual risks and develop mitigation measures.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, engineers, lenders and other stakeholders.
• Prepare high‑quality technical reports and progress updates.
• Mentor team members and promote best practices across projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Highway or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in road and transport infrastructure.
• At least 7 years supervising construction or rehabilitation of highways, roads or bridges.
• Strong experience with FIDIC contract administration and claims management.
• Experience on projects financed by International Financial Institutions (World Bank, EBRD, ADB, EIB, etc.).
• Previous work as a Lender’s Monitoring Advisor, Engineer or Supervisor is highly desirable.
• Experience in emerging markets is an advantage.
